King's Battery

Formed as Missouri state guard 1861

Chaplains Corner

Currently we have two of our officers working together to post updates to this part of the site each month. While the battery has no official chaplain at this time, we are seeking volunteers to fill this post. If you would like to volunteer, or have something you would like to see us discuss here, or have a name to be added to the prayer list, please contact sgtsheeks@kingsbattery.com or adjutant@kingsbattery.com

Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. AS he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed feel among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times.” Then Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

I would like to ask you to pray for us as we continue to receive a message to share here each month.

Even though we sometimes don’t known why someone needs a special prayer, our Lord does. A name lifted to Him in prayer, even if just a name, is something each of us can do to help a fellow human.

Let’s pray for each other this month. As school starts and summer vacation ends, the weather changes and harvest season approaches, many of us suffer from allergies and sinus problems this time of year. Many of our families teach in the school systems of our country and are subject to the illness being shared in close proximity to sick children. May God keep us all healthy this time of year.

Confederate Soldier’s Prayer

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve,

I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.

I asked God for health, that I might do greater things,

I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.

I asked for riches, that I might be happy,

I was given poverty, that I might be wise.

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men,

I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life,

I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing that I asked for

-but everything I had hoped for.

Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.

I am among men, most richly blessed.

As the parable of the sower is meant to teach us that we need a prepared heart to receive his word, I think we all could spend a little time to think about what having a prepared heart means. Do we have the heard packed heart where we are so stubborn and set in our ways that his message is bounced off us just as quickly as it is given? Are we the rocky ground where we receive his message today and within a few days the sun of our daily lives has overpowered the seed of the message? Do the thorny cares and stresses of our daily life control us so much that while we receive the message and our faith grows it is choked away and hidden in the thorns? I believe that sometimes were a combination of all of these. Today’s fast passed society makes it difficult for us to take the time and remember the things that matter most.

This months challenge, as we continue to watch the world around us change into its winter slumber, and the days grow shorter, is to try to take a few moments out of your life to spend preparing your soil for gods seed.

May you each be blessed in your daily life.
